What Is Artificial Turf?

Artificial turf, also known as synthetic turf or fake grass, is a surface made of synthetic fibers that mimic the appearance and feel of natural grass. It is commonly used in sports fields, residential lawns, and commercial landscaping.

It is made from a combination of materials, including polyethylene, polypropylene, or nylon, and is typically set in a bed of crushed stone or rubber. These days, it is favored over natural grass due to its low maintenance, durability, and ability to be used in different climate conditions.

Best Artificial Turf Options in San Diego

With the widest selection of synthetic turf options available in San Diego, we are the one-stop shop for artificial grass, all the necessary turf accessories, and installation services to help you seamlessly enhance any outdoor landscape.

Our large selection of artificial grass that suits any landscape project includes:

Landscape-Turf
1

Landscape Turf

This turf is designed for residential and commercial landscaping settings and has a natural appearance making it suitable for lawns, gardens, and other outdoor spaces. It is available in different pile heights, colors, and textures, and can be cut to fit any area.

Pet Turf
2

Pet Turf

Our pet turf options are durable and resistant to wear and tear from pet activities, easy to clean and maintain, and have drainage systems to prevent odors and bacteria buildup. They are low-maintenance alternatives to natural grass, which can be difficult to maintain in areas of heavy pet use.

Putting-Green-Turf
3

Putting Green Turf

A synthetic turf with a low pile designed to replicate the conditions of real golf putting green. Its low pile height and tight surface mimic the ball roll and stop of natural bentgrass, making it different from standard turf with a thicker pile and surface.

Besides, it is easy to maintain, with features such as drainage systems to prevent waterlogging and bacteria buildup.

Our San Diego Artificial Turf Installation Process

With decades of experience in artificial turf installation in San Diego, we understand your preferred options. Then we do everything correctly to deliver a quality turf installation to ensure longevity.

    • Site Preparation: After scheduling in-home consultation, our pre-installation includes clearing and leveling the area, removing existing grass or debris, and ensuring that the surface is smooth and stable.
    • Layout and Design: After analyzing and preparing the site, our experts will lay out the artificial turf, measure it to fit the area, and make any necessary cuts or seams.
    • Base Preparation: Next, we prepare the base by laying weed material, creating a moisture drainage system, spreading a layer of crushed stone or other base material, and compacting it to provide a stable foundation for the turf.
    • Artificial Turf Installation: We roll out the artificial turf over the prepared base and secure it with stakes or adhesive.
    • Infill and Grooming: Next, it is time to spread the infill material, such as sand or rubber, over the turf and work it into the fibers with a power broom or a specialized grooming tool.
    • Finishing Touches: To ensure the turf stays in place, we trim and secure the edges of the turf in place and make any necessary repairs or adjustments.
    • Inspection and Maintenance: We do a final inspection of the installation, make any necessary adjustments to ensure longevity, and recommend maintenance solutions.

Advantages of Artificial Turf Installation in San Diego

San Diego homeowners use artificial turf for a wide range of residential applications. With our artificial turf installation service in San Diego, we will improve your lawn on performance and safety.

    • Low maintenance: Artificial turf requires very little maintenance, as it can be watered, fertilized, or mowed. This can save you time and money compared to natural grass.
    • Durability: Synthetic grass is more durable than natural grass and can withstand heavy use, wear, and extreme weather conditions.
    • Cost-effective: Ultimately, synthetic turf is more cost-effective than natural grass because of its low maintenance requirements, eliminating the need for irrigation systems and lawnmowers.
    • Environmentally Friendly: Additionally, synthetic turf has reduced air pollution caused by lawnmowers and other power equipment because they do not need to be watered and fertilized, which can help conserve water and reduce the use of chemicals.
    • Aesthetically Pleasing: Because synthetic grass blades look like natural grass and come in various colors and textures, we can use them in several settings, such as sports fields, landscaping, and pet areas.
    • Availability and Ease of Use: Synthetic turf can be installed on a variety of surfaces, including concrete and asphalt, making it ideal for areas where natural grass may not be able to grow.

My wife and I hired Better Place Remodeling on May 7, 2020, and our project was completed on August 31, 2020. Evi was the first person with whom we made in-person contact, and let me tell you, he exuded nothing but professionalism, courtesy, and respect to both my wife and me! Having hired F.A.T. Construction prior under the general foreman Tony Chavez and having a VERY POOR experience with that contractor, my wife and I were very skeptical, to say the least. Evi quickly earned our trust and our business through his constant contact and updates. He always kept my wife in the loop with all major decisions during the project. Had I not continuously kept adding more to the project, Evi and his crew would have finished a lot sooner than expected. Evi even went so far as to bring us his favorite type of coffee direct from Israel as we had a good working relationship. The one time I got frustrated at the job was nothing to do with Better Place Remodeling, but rather the City of Escondido with their slow permit approval process due to COVID-19. Even though this wasn't Evi's fault, he even brought me Starbucks coffee one night and further explained the backlog of permits. I also would like to send a shout-out to Barr and to Evi's top Landscaper Herman. Barr stepped in and helped Evi with our project when Evi's plate was full. Barr also exuded the same professionalism, courtesy, and respect to both my wife and me! Herman? What can I say? The guy has landscaping skills! Let him make suggestions to you and be open-minded about them-you will not be disappointed! Thanks, Evi, Barr, and Herman for such tremendous work on our home!

      FAQs

1 How Much Infill is required for Artificial Turf?

The amount of infill required for artificial turf depends on the type of infill and the turf specifications. Generally, we add the infill to stabilize the turf and prevent matting.

At Better Place Remodeling, we can assess your specific artificial turf installation needs and

recommend the appropriate infill amount required. The most common infill materials include sand, rubber, and a combination of the two, ranging from 1-2 pounds per square foot for sand infill to 2-3 pounds per square foot for rubber infill.

2 How Does Artificial Turf Drainage Work?

Artificial turf drainage is designed to mimic natural grass and prevent water accumulation on the surface.

We can install a drainage system with a perforated base layer draining water to the ground. This system is combined with an infill material that helps absorb water and prevent runoff, hence can handle heavy rainfall and ensure your yard remains dry and safe for use.

3 Can Artificial Turf be installed in High Traffic Areas?

Yes, we can install artificial turf in high-traffic areas and recommend high-quality options designed to withstand heavy use.

Additionally, we use proper installation techniques, including adding good infill and compacting the base layer, to ensure your artificial turf can withstand the demands of a high-traffic area.

4 Can I Install Artificial Turf in My Front Yard?

Yes, you can have artificial turf in your front yard.

At Better Place Remodeling, we offer a variety of artificial turf products suitable for front yard installations. We can customize your installation and provide design recommendations to create a stunning, inviting front yard.

5 Is Artificial Turf Resistant to Mold and Mildew?

Yes, artificial turf is resistant to mold and mildew. Unlike natural grass, artificial turf does not provide the conditions necessary for mold and mildew growth, such as moisture and organic matter.

However, it is still essential to properly maintain your artificial turf to prevent debris and organic matter from accumulating on the surface, which can attract mold and mildew
